The Ecclesial Network of Communication of Latin America and the Caribbean (Reclac) concluded its First General Assembly with a message directed to the communicators of the Church of the continent, in which it expressed its continuity with the announcement of the Gospel from communion, synodality, and hope, placing Jesus Christ at the center of all communicative action.
Gathered in Santiago de Chile, the members of the network expressed their gratitude to the bishops of Latin America and the Caribbean for their closeness, trust, and ongoing support for the mission of ecclesial communicators. They also recognized those who accompanied the discernment process that made the birth of Reclac possible as a space of communion and service for the Church.
The participants renewed their willingness to continue walking alongside their pastors, convinced that communication lived in communion strengthens the evangelizing mission and makes the face of Christ more visible among the Latin American and Caribbean peoples.
Reflection on artificial intelligence and communication
In the context of the activities developed at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, the communicators participated in the VII International Seminar on Church Communications, where they discussed and discerned the challenges posed by artificial intelligence for evangelization and the ethics of communication.
The reflection was inspired by the recent encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, which emphasizes the centrality of the human person.
The participants highlighted the conviction that technological development only makes sense when it is at the service of human dignity, truth, and the common good.
Historic event for the network
The Reclac qualified the celebration of its First General Assembly as a historic event for the network. During the sessions, the statutes were approved and the first coordinators were elected, taking a decisive step in the consolidation of this continental space for articulation.
According to their statements, the working days were filled with a spirit of discernment, listening, and fraternity.
They also expressed their confidence that the path initiated will strengthen the communion and collaboration among the Churches in the region, allowing the Reclac to consolidate as a true service for communicators and for all the People of God.
Solidarity with Venezuela and Cuba
In their message, the Assembly expressed its closeness to the Venezuelan people in light of the consequences of the recent earthquakes that have affected numerous families and communities.
It also expressed its solidarity with Cuba, a country that continues to face the effects of a prolonged energy crisis that impacts the daily lives of millions of people.
The members of the network stated that they will continue to accompany both peoples from the communicative mission of the Church, giving visibility to their challenges and hopes, and promoting communication that contributes to building fraternity, solidarity, and peace.
Communicate from Christ and promote peace
Addressing the communicators of the Church in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Reclac emphasized two convictions that guide their work. The first is that every communicative effort finds its full meaning when it has Jesus Christ at the center and promotes the dignity of every human person in light of the Gospel.
The second conviction is the need to continue working for peace and the care of the common home, recognizing that communication constitutes a privileged path to strengthen fraternity among peoples.
In the face of the increase in poverty, exclusion, and various forms of violence present in the region, the communicators reaffirmed their evangelizing vocation. In this context, they embraced the call of Pope Leo XIV to “disarm the words of all aggressiveness”, promoting encounter and building bridges where divisions exist.
The Assembly encouraged all ecclesial communicators to live this mission with enthusiasm and responsibility, working together so that the words, images, and communicative initiatives contribute to a more fraternal, supportive, and committed Latin America and Caribbean in caring for all life.
