The preparation for Pope León XIV's visit to Argentina is also advancing in the liturgical area. Representatives from the Vatican and the Argentine team in charge of the trip reviewed in Rome the details of the main celebrations planned during the pontiff's stay.
The meeting took place on Tuesday, September 8 at the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff and was focused on the organization of the masses and Vespers that the Pope will preside over.
Coordination between Rome and the Argentine teams
Rodrigo Martínez, coordinator of the liturgy area of the national team for the visit, participated in the meeting with Monsignor Diego Giovanni Ravelli, master of the Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations, as well as officials Ján Dubina and Ľubomír Welnitz.
According to the press release provided by the Communication and Press Office of the Argentine Episcopal Conference, during the day, aspects related to the celebrations that will take place in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Luján were reviewed. Work was also done on the Vespers that León XIV will preside over at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires.
The liturgical dimension is one of the areas that requires the most coordination during a papal trip, due to the simultaneous participation of teams from the Holy See and local Churches. In this case, the Argentine officials are already working alongside the Vatican structures to define each celebration.
A visit that mobilizes the Argentine Church
León XIV will travel to Argentina from November 8 to 11, as part of a South American tour that also includes Uruguay and Peru. It will be the first visit of a pope to the country in almost four decades, since Saint John Paul II's trip in 1987.
The Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff will accompany the Pope during the journey and will work alongside the local teams responsible for the preparation. The agenda includes celebrations in three locations of special relevance for the Argentine Church: Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Luján.
As preparations continue, the Argentine Episcopal Conference maintains a call to the communities to experience the papal trip as a pastoral and ecclesial event.
