Religious life in Latin America and the Caribbean is gearing up for a gathering. The Latin American and Caribbean Confederation of Men and Women Religious (CLAR) has convened the Sixth Congress on Religious Life, which will take place in Lima, Peru, from November 13 to 15, 2026.
The theme “Structural Changes in Step with the Spirit” invites reflection on the forms of leadership, participation, and organization that religious life requires today.
The proposal seeks to move toward more participatory, co-responsible, and synodal relationships. CLAR argues that this review must be grounded in the Gospel and communal discernment in order to respond creatively to the needs of the communities.
A call to transform structures
This continental gathering will provide an opportunity to review the organizational structures that underpin the mission and to ask which ones truly help build communities that are more participatory, open to dialogue, and capable of discerning together.
CLAR also proposes reviewing the dynamics of authority and participation to foster greater shared responsibility within the community. The goal is to create structures that are “more agile and pneumatological,” capable of discerning the signs of the times through openness to the Holy Spirit.

The conference will provide a forum for sharing experiences and fostering a shared reflection on the challenges facing religious life. The exchange among participants from different countries will help identify lessons learned and open up new perspectives for the mission.
Listening to walk together
More than just an academic gathering, the conference aims to become a space for strengthening bonds and opening up new shared paths, as explained by CLAR President Father José Luis Loyola, MSpS. “It will not be just a conference,” he noted, because “the Spirit will continue to weave new relationships and ways for us to walk together.”
The CLAR seeks to gather the diversity of faces and experiences of Religious Life on the continent. The meeting aims to strengthen processes of participation and co-responsibility that help build a Church that is closer, missionary, and sensitive to the realities of the people.
