Argentinian bishops express solidarity with Colombia after the earthquake that leaves pain, victims, and damage.

The Argentine Episcopal Conference (CEA) conveyed its closeness and solidarity to the Church and the Colombian people after the earthquake that occurred on August 10 in the municipality of San José del Palmar, Chocó.

The message of solidarity was sent to Monsignor Francisco Javier Múnera Correa, president of the Colombian episcopate, to whom the CEA expressed its closeness in the face of the pain caused by the earthquake.. The letter is signed by Monsignor Marcelo Daniel Colombo, president of the CEA, and Monsignor Raúl Pizarro, general secretary.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.4 according to the Colombian Geological Service, was felt in wide areas of the country. Reports recorded victims and damage in different regions.The tremor was felt in Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama, while authorities activated emergency protocols.

“We want to convey, on behalf of the Argentine Episcopal Conference, our closeness and solidarity with the Church and with all the beloved people of Colombia,” the letter states.

In their message, the Argentine bishops expressed their closeness to “the pain of the victims and their families” and raised their prayer that God grants “comfort to those who suffer, strength to those who have lost their loved ones, and hope to those who face the consequences of this tragedy.”

The message emphasizes the solidarity between both Churches. “The entire Church that pilgrimages in Argentina feels close and united fraternally with the Colombian people”, expresses the letter.

The message concludes by placing the victims, their families, and those who generously work to assist those in greatest need under the protection of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá, patroness of Colombia.
