With the purpose of strengthening the commitment of religious life to the Common Home, the Latin American and Caribbean Confederation of Religious Sisters and Brothers (CLAR) calls for the seminar “Ecological Conversion and Sustainable Practices”, which will take place from October 21 to 23 in Paraguay.
The initiative of the Integral Ecology Commission of CLAR aims to strengthen the response of religious life to the various socio-environmental crises affecting the region.
The Institution extends the invitation to religious men and women committed to the Common Home, with special attention to trainers, representatives of the National Conferences of Religious and associated laypeople.
A perspective from faith and reality
More than an environmental concern, CLAR understands integral ecology as a path of spiritual renewal. The seminar will focus on “the nights that challenge us”, a phrase that refers to socio-environmental crises, structural injustices, and the accommodation that affects the region.
In a reality marked by the culture of waste and extractivism, this ecclesial body calls for a prophetic response that involves a true ecological conversion. “This new birth implies an ecological conversion that reconciles our relationship with God, with our sisters and brothers, and with creation.”, it states.
From discernment to concrete commitments
The seminar will incorporate contributions from ecotheology and ancestral spiritualities to deepen the perspective on the relationship with creation. The intention is that this process of reflection leads to concrete commitments and helps communities and religious institutes to become true “guardians of our Common Home.”
The CLAR proposes a methodology that connects the synodal path with concrete experience: See, Illuminate, Act, and Celebrate. The itinerary will include a field trip to the Yobái territory on the second day, as a space to experience firsthand the commitment to creation.
The process of inscription will conclude on October 10, while September 15 will be the deadline to reach the minimum of 30 participants required for the seminar to take place.
