Colombia: The Dona Nobis collection will bring solidarity to dioceses affected by the earthquake and strengthen ecclesial mission

Solidarity with the communities affected by the earthquake will be the focus of this year’s Dona Nobis campaign, the annual fundraising drive organized by the Colombian Episcopal Conference (CEC), which will take place on Sunday, August 30, to strengthen the Church’s evangelizing mission and support the dioceses most affected by the emergency.

Under the slogan “One Church, one mission, one hope that unites us,” Dona Nobis calls on Catholics across the country to support the Church’s responses to various pastoral and social needs. According to a press release issued by the Colombian Bishops’ Conference, these contributions will strengthen both the work of the dioceses and initiatives carried out at the national level.

The president of the Colombian Episcopal Conference, Monsignor Francisco Javier Múnera Correa, presented “Dona Nobis” as an expression of the faithful’s shared responsibility for the Church’s mission. “Dona Nobis is the annual collection proposed by the Colombian Episcopal Conference so that, together, we can support the Church’s mission in our country,” he stated.

The funds raised provide support for the Church’s pastoral work on various fronts, particularly in the areas of formation, catechesis, family ministry, and the promotion of life. In addition, Dona Nobis helps sustain the Church’s presence in the ten apostolic vicariates and supports emeritus bishops.

Múnera highlighted the coordination between the jurisdictions and the national structure. “This mission is made possible through each particular Church, but also thanks to the work that is coordinated at the national level,” he noted.

The emergency caused by the August 10 earthquake will give this year’s fundraising drive special significance. The solidarity shown will also support the work of the dioceses that are standing by the affected communities during the relief and recovery phases.

“We want the solidarity of the entire Church to be present here as well,” said Monsignor Múnera, referring to the communities facing the aftermath of the earthquake. In this vein, Dona Nobis is aligned with the strategy “With Colombia, to the Farthest Corner,” developed in collaboration with the National Secretariat for Social Ministry—Caritas Colombia.

The event aims to transform the faithful’s participation into concrete acts of solidarity. In addition to praying for the communities and the Church’s mission, they will be able to make their contributions on August 30 at their parishes or through the platforms provided by the Colombian Episcopal Conference.

The CEC encourages people to share it. “I invite you to experience this day as an opportunity to share, to feel part of the same Church, and to continue bringing hope,” Múnera concluded.
