The Catholic Church in Brazil is getting ready to experience a new edition of the National Family Week, an initiative promoted by the Episcopal Commission for Life and Family of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), through the National Commission for Family Pastoral (CNPF), which will take place from August 9 to 15 in parishes, communities, and dioceses throughout the country.
This year's celebration will have the theme “Family, become what you are” and the slogan “Love never ends” (1 Cor 13:8), inviting reflection on the vocation to marriage, family life, and the commitment to defending life.
The chosen theme takes on special significance as it coincides with two important anniversaries for the Church: the ten years of the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia, from Pope Francis, and the forty-five years of Familiaris Consortio, a document by Saint John Paul II dedicated to the mission of the Christian family in the contemporary world.
Thirty years accompanying families
As part of the resources prepared for this week, the National Commission for Family Pastoral has made available the publication “The Hour of the Family”, which reaches its thirtieth edition and continues to be a tool for formation, reflection, and prayer for communities.
The president of the Episcopal Commission for Life and Family of the CNBB and bishop of Ponta Grossa, Bruno Elizeu Versari, referred to the importance of this anniversary and the journey taken alongside Brazilian families.
“This is a reason for great joy! For three decades we have accompanied families, offering them support, formation, and inspiration so that, in all parishes, chapels, and communities, the National Family Week is lived with faith, unity, and hope”, expressed the prelate. The material is distributed by the National Commission for Family Pastoral and can be purchased through the official channels of the institution.
Resources to strengthen local participation
In addition to formation materials, the organization has prepared a graphic kit that includes digital files, typography suggestions, and images intended to facilitate the promotion of the National Family Week in various ecclesial realities.
The initiative aims for parishes, movements, and communities to create their own materials for dissemination and pastoral animation, fostering spaces for meeting, reflection, and dialogue around the reality of families and the promotion of a culture of life.
