In the situation of pain, uncertainty, and need that families and communities in Colombia are experiencing after the earthquake that affected the country, the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral–Cáritas Ecuador expressed its closeness, prayer, and solidarity with the Colombian people and called on the Church and society to join in a response of help.
Through a statement titled “Solidarity and Fraternity with Colombia”, and under the biblical quote “If one member suffers, all suffer together” (1 Corinthians 12:26), Cáritas Ecuador pointed out that the emergency once again challenges the faith and solidarity commitment of the ecclesial community, especially after the earthquake that recently affected Venezuela.
The organization reminded that the suffering of other peoples cannot generate indifference. From the perspective of the Gospel, it explained, the response to an emergency involves approaching those who suffer the consequences, becoming neighbors, and turning compassion into actions capable of alleviating the needs of the affected people.
Convert fraternity into help
Cáritas Ecuador emphasized that Christian fraternity transcends borders when the life and dignity of people are at stake. In this sense, it stated that solidarity with Colombia must be expressed through tangible actions of accompaniment and support for those who today face the consequences of the emergency.
The statement also linked this response to synodality, understood as the ability to walk together, particularly in times of suffering. For Cáritas Ecuador, accompanying affected communities means sharing their burdens and generating support networks that allow them to be sustained during this period of uncertainty.
With this purpose, the institution invited ecclesiastical jurisdictions, diocesan Cáritas, parishes, religious communities, institutions, volunteers, families, and people of good will to join the solidarity response for Colombia.
Cáritas Ecuador has set up an account to receive contributions
As part of this response, Social Pastoral–Cáritas Ecuador made available a bank account for those who wish to make financial contributions. The resources will be channeled through the institution as part of the fraternal response to Colombia.

For Caritas Ecuador, each contribution represents much more than a financial donation. Even a small help can become a sign of fraternity for those going through a situation of vulnerability. “Every contribution, no matter how small it may seem, expresses something much greater: that no one is alone when there is a community capable of being a neighbor”, states the statement.
In this way, the Social Pastoral–Caritas Ecuador aims for solidarity with Colombia to translate into an effective response, capable of supporting affected families and helping to address the needs arising after the earthquake.
